Critics say downtown art project is just an eyesore

….but is it art?  This is an on going question that gets asked when talk about Duchamp, Warhol, and the likes.  Graffiti more often that not gets asked that question.   Check out this video coverage, documenting a public battle taking place in San Diego.  The controversy is over the question, “Is graffiti art?” San Diego affiliate CBS 8 writes:

Whether the display is beautiful is up for debate. The Museum of Contemporary Art in San Diego commissioned internationally-known artist Barry McGee — who has created murals throughout the world — to use the building as his canvas as part of a larger exhibition after initially getting the permission from the building’s owner.

Street art wins out (for now). Fight the powers that be!
